A future worth thinking about
Give your future a little more attention.
KiwiSaver can sit quietly in the background while life moves on. Whether you are thinking about a first home or a later chapter, it is worth understanding what you hold and why. Ledger Black connects you with partner advisers for that conversation. Your adviser provides the advice; Ledger Black is not a KiwiSaver manager or financial advice provider.

A THOUGHTFUL STARTING POINT
Make room for a clearer decision.
Start with when you need it
Put your likely withdrawal time frame alongside your ability and willingness to experience changes in value.
Look beneath the fund label
Discuss asset mix, fees, investment approach and responsible-investment preferences, not just a recent performance figure.
Know what to revisit
Set useful prompts for checking contributions, personal details and whether your fund still fits when your plans change.
Different goals call for different conversations
Money intended for a near-term first-home purchase has a different job from money intended for retirement further away. An adviser can help you consider that time frame, your other savings and what a fall in value would mean for your plans. A risk questionnaire is a starting point for discussion, not a complete answer by itself.
A considered choice, not a race to last year’s winner
Comparing funds means understanding what they invest in, the risks taken, the fees charged and the dates and basis of any performance figures. Past returns do not tell you what comes next, and investment values can fall. Your adviser should explain the providers within their advice scope, any remuneration and whether staying with your current arrangement is an appropriate option.
A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS
Know where
you stand.
Clear information makes for a better conversation. Here are some useful things to understand before you start.
Do I need to move my KiwiSaver to get advice?
No. The first step is understanding your existing scheme, fund and objectives. Your adviser should explain whether they can advise on your current provider and any limits to their scope. A useful review can conclude that no change is needed.
Can I use KiwiSaver for a first home?
A first-home withdrawal may be available if you meet the applicable requirements. Eligibility, what can be withdrawn and the application process should be checked against current rules with your provider and lawyer before you rely on the money for a purchase.
Will a projection tell me what I will retire with?
A projection illustrates a possible outcome under stated assumptions. Contributions, returns, fees, tax and inflation can all change the result. It is useful for exploring choices, but it is not a forecast or guarantee of the amount you will receive.
