For the people who matter

Protect the life you are building.

The useful insurance conversation begins with people, not policies. Who depends on you? What would need to keep going if you could not work? Ledger Black connects you with partner advisers to explore those questions. The adviser, not Ledger Black, provides personal financial advice and explains the cover they can arrange.

A THOUGHTFUL STARTING POINT

Make room for a clearer decision.

Put your priorities first

Consider the mortgage, dependants, time away from work and other commitments before deciding which risks to insure.

Make the wording meaningful

Understand benefit definitions, waiting periods, exclusions and limits rather than comparing premiums alone.

Keep cover connected to life

Use changes in your family, work and finances as reasons to review whether existing arrangements still fit.

A balance between protection and affordability

Life, trauma, disability, income protection and health cover serve different purposes. Your adviser can consider existing policies, workplace benefits, savings and the support you might already be entitled to, including the limits of ACC. The aim is a reasoned set of priorities and a premium you can sustain, not a policy for every possible worry.

Understand what changes before you change cover

A new policy may involve fresh underwriting, different definitions, exclusions or stand-down periods. An adviser should explain material differences and the risks of replacing existing cover. Keep current protection in place until you understand and have accepted the new terms and the timing of the change. Insurers determine acceptance, terms and claims under their policy wording.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Know where
you stand.

Clear information makes for a better conversation. Here are some useful things to understand before you start.

Can I review insurance I already have?

Yes. Bring your current policy schedules, wording and any employer-provided cover. A review may support keeping your existing arrangements, adjusting them or considering alternatives. Moving provider is not automatically an improvement, particularly if your health has changed.

Does a medical condition mean I cannot get cover?

Not always. Insurers assess applications individually and may offer standard terms, an extra premium, exclusions or no cover for a particular risk. Give complete and accurate answers to the application questions, and ask your adviser to explain any proposed restrictions before accepting.

Will someone help if I need to claim?

Ask your adviser what claims support forms part of their service and how to contact them. They may help you understand the process and gather information, but the insurer assesses the claim against the policy terms. Neither an introduction nor advice guarantees a claim will be paid.
